The second episode of Star City begins with Luna 16 making its journey back to Earth after completing its mission on the Moon. The return isn’t entirely successful, however. Anastasia and Valya land far from their intended location, ending up hundreds of kilometers off target.
Things become even more alarming after the capsule touches down. When Anastasia opens the hatch, she finds herself staring directly at a huge bear in the wilderness. Thankfully, rescue teams eventually locate the stranded cosmonauts and transport them to safety.
Once she returns, Anastasia is met by Lyudmilla and Deputy Chairman Tarasov. Rather than receiving praise, she receives a warning. Tarasov has not forgotten her recent public comments and reminds her that opposing the interests of the Soviet state can have consequences. The message is clear: she is expected to stay obedient.

Despite the tension, Anastasia is immediately pushed back into the spotlight. She is scheduled to participate in celebrations in Red Square before traveling to Paris as part of a Soviet publicity tour.
The government, however, has another concern. They don’t want one of their most famous cosmonauts appearing abroad as an unmarried woman. To solve the problem, officials arrange a marriage for her.
Her new husband is Sasha.
The pairing isn’t random. Sasha has already attracted the attention of authorities, making the marriage a convenient way to monitor both individuals at once. Irina receives the assignment of listening to their conversations and reporting anything suspicious.
While Anastasia is losing control over her personal life, the Chief Designer is facing growing pressure in the space program.
Government leaders remain focused on building a lunar base and maintaining Soviet dominance in space. The Chief Designer believes their ambitions should extend beyond the Moon. He wants future missions aimed at nearby planets, but his ideas gain little support.
Instead, Tarasov demands faster results. He orders the Zvezda project to be accelerated so it can coincide with Paratrooper’s Day celebrations only months away.
The Chief Designer is stunned. The lunar base plans are nowhere near completion, and the timeline leaves almost no room for error. He argues that rushing the program could put lives at risk, but his concerns are ignored.
Forced to continue, he and his team begin searching for ways to make the impossible seem possible. One proposal involving inflatable structures offers some hope, though it remains highly uncertain.
Later, the Chief Designer meets privately with Sergei Nikulov. Impressed by Sergei’s intelligence, he reveals a secret project.
Officially, everyone believes they are working toward lunar expansion. Unofficially, the Chief Designer dreams of sending a mission to Venus.
The plan would violate direct instructions from Soviet leadership, making it extremely dangerous. Discovery could ruin everyone involved. Sergei understands the risk but agrees to join the effort without hesitation.
Meanwhile, the Soviet delegation arrives in Paris.
Lyudmilla oversees operations while Irina installs surveillance devices in the hotel. Although she successfully bugs the room, she overlooks the elevator. That mistake creates an opportunity for Sasha and Tanya to have a private conversation away from monitoring equipment.
At the same time, Anastasia struggles to adapt to life back on Earth.
After experiencing the silence and isolation of the Moon, she finds Paris overwhelming. The constant attention from journalists and the noisy atmosphere leave her visibly uncomfortable.
Sasha notices her mood and decides to take her away from the official events for a while. Together, they leave the hotel and wander through the city before ending up in a crowded bar filled with drinking and drug use.
During the outing, a woman approaches Anastasia and appears to have connections to American intelligence. Anastasia refuses to engage and walks away, even after the woman leaves behind a card.
Later, viewers learn the entire encounter was staged.
The woman was actually testing Anastasia’s loyalty on behalf of Soviet authorities. Her report to Lyudmilla confirms that Anastasia did not take the bait.
Back in the Soviet intelligence world, Irina receives a more demanding assignment.
Working alongside Galytzin, she helps question a German prisoner. Because she speaks German, she serves as the translator during the interrogation.
The situation grows increasingly disturbing as Lyudmilla loses patience. Threats begin replacing questions, and the atmosphere becomes far more aggressive.
Eventually, Irina takes matters into her own hands by throwing boiling water into the prisoner’s face. The shock forces him to reveal information about a contact living on Rykestrasse.
According to the prisoner, his role involved moving items across the border. The contact, however, has been struggling to get something into Star City.
Before he can reveal more details, Lyudmilla stops the discussion. Even so, she leaves impressed by Irina’s actions.
As the episode nears its conclusion, Anastasia and Sasha officially marry.
Among the guests is the Chief Designer, who recognizes a difficult truth. Anastasia has become too important as a national symbol. In his eyes, the government is unlikely to risk sending her back to the Moon.
Elsewhere, security efforts continue to intensify as officials increase their search for the mole hidden within the system.
Review
Episode 2 does a good job widening the scope of the story while deepening several character arcs.
Anastasia continues to emerge as one of the most interesting figures in the series. Her journey to the Moon seems to have changed her perspective, and she appears increasingly uncomfortable with the role the state expects her to play. Watching her be forced into marriage highlights just how little freedom she actually has.
Irina’s development is equally fascinating. Earlier she seemed uncertain about the system around her, but this episode shows her becoming more willing to embrace its harsher methods. The interrogation scene marks a significant turning point for her character.
The Chief Designer’s storyline also adds fresh momentum. His secret ambition to pursue a Venus mission creates a compelling conflict that could eventually place him on a collision course with Soviet leadership.
While Star City still favors a slower pace, the episode introduces several storylines that feel important for the future. The forced marriage, the search for a mole, and the hidden Venus project all add tension that should pay off as the season progresses.
